I am just arriving home from work which was out of control due to the UFC fights. I cannot explain how much I am dumbfounded by the entire UFC phenomena. I don't mean to sound like a typical pacifist because I'm really not ,however, I can't sit back and watch people be so entertained by violence. What part of watching two people beat each other till they are near the brink of death is ok? How can crowds cheer with overwhelming excitement as a man bleeds all over the octagon?
I'm not sure really. I wish I knew ,but I believe the cause to be something similar to the reason Jerry Springer is still a staple in American society. We are entertained by other peoples pain. There is some sick joy people get from watching things like UFC and Springer. I personally don't understand it ,but both are extremely lucrative and successful shows ,so someone must be watching. I just can't help but wonder when society changed. When did the typical American family go from the cleavers to the osbournes? I'm not saying change is bad ,but I am saying when has it crossed the line? I know this is popular topic which has been studied extensively and we often hear about the vast amount of research being done on violence in the media ,but we could do research everyday for ten years and still know nothing. My question is, when are we going to draw the line? When do we as a society take the high road and accept that while some things are entertaining they are just wrong? Will we ever ,or will we continue to push boundaries and take it to the next level? To add, what will it take for the media to understand that limits do exist? Unfortunately, my hope for change is faint because we are becoming those in control and seem to be following the same path previously taken. Nevertheless, I will not give up and follow the crowd because I rather walk alone forever than embark thru life accompanying the crowd which stands for nothing. Just like Gandhi said ," be the change you wish to see in the world".
Please keep selling this to the youth of America

i agree with you 100%. i mean come on! what will it take for americans to finally say "wow this is really going too far". its probably too late. some americans really can't draw the line anymore because they have been exposed to violence so much. i am so glad that there are some people like you who are ready for change, and can passionately write about something like this. THANK YOU!!
Oh man you got that right, thats why I joined this facebook group, I hope it grows

Some people may be watching it for the aspect because its sport. You may be right that some people are watching it because they enjoy violence, but look at America, look at movies. If you're complaining about UFC turn on the tv and watch another channel you're likely to find similar results, the only difference is UFC is reality.
For the most part, I don't really watch UFC, but people that do tend to have some interests in martial arts. The sad part is, whenever I see the competitors fighting, the art aspect is gone. Respect is gone. Everything that martial arts stand for is gone. It's just turned into fighting.
I agree with you guys...but I disagree as well. I'm not into the whole phenomanon either, but this phenomenon is nothing new. The only reason it's more noticable is because of technology, look at the old days of Rome. They had there own "mma" with the collosseaum, and those brought out record numbers of people. It's always the same and always will be. We just have to accept that most people are stupid. We live in a world where the majority of people are unintelligent and ate still entertained by primative human instincts. Most people are incapable of thinking outside the box. We just have to deal with this aspect of society and don't try to change it because it will never change. Complaining about will never solve it or stop it. The only way to combat it is to offer something else with more of a positive outcome and hope that it will influence the next generation to not be "as" dumb.
I used to like UFC back in the mid 90's when, to me, it was legit. UFC is so over glamerized now. UFC, in my opinion, is about as serious as WWF Wrestling. Its a joke. The only people who really like UFC nowadays are the people who like the Springer Show and WWF Wrestling. Low class white trash. I appreciate the sport that USED to be behind UFC. Unfortunately its more about show and glam, bursts of fire and loud rock music. Its comedic at this point now.
